Here are a few ideas on how to spend the holiday:

Take advantage of our 2 day pass to the largest home in America (Tickets are valid for 2 consecutive days). With over 175,000 square feet of home and expansive gardens you will need at least two days to see it all. Built by George Washington Vanderbilt II in the late 1800’s the Biltmore Estate is the largest privately owned home in the US to date. Beginning February 12, Biltmore has planned another spectacular exhibition “Fashionable Romance: Wedding Gowns in Film”. From grand gowns to delicate dressed, explore centuries of wedding fashion with this new exhibition of movie costumes and family heirlooms. Showcased in Biltmore House, award-winning costumes from iconic movies including Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Out of Africa are paired with exquisite floral designs complementing each film’s era. More than 40 costumes from 19 classic films will be displayed throughout the grand rooms of Biltmore House. Costumes illustrate changing styles in wedding fashion from 1700s through 1940s. The exhibition continues in Antler Hill Village with stories of Vanderbilt and Cecil weddings, along with the first-ever display of the wedding veil worn by Biltmore owner Mary Ryan Cecil and her cousin Jacqueline Kennedy.

Cayce and Kelsey have a special treat in store for this Valentine’s Day edition of Ready, Set, Throw. Come sip a glass of wine and nibble on chocolates while you and your partner explore the sensual aspects of clay. You can dig your hands in the clay, or work on a piece together. We’ll even help you re-enact the scene from Ghost! We will glaze and fire the work for you, so you can have a permanent reminder of your passion for each other. A great date for couples who don’t mind getting a little…dirty.

Asheville Brewing Company just released their newest seasonal brew, Love Ninja, it is brewed with lactose, giving it a silky smoothness. Then fresh vanilla beans, cacao powder from local chocolatier French Broad Chocolate Lounge, and pureed strawberries are added to the beer.

The result is a rich Milk Porter with an explosive, but not-too-sweet, berry chocolate flavor and aroma. It’s liquid Neopolitan-style ice cream–for adults only. Asheville Brewing Company will host a Love Ninja Gala celebration throughout the weekend of February 12-13 at The Mill Room, to get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day. Members of comedy troupe Feral Chihuahuas will lead a round of The Dating Game for those looking for love. There will be a Love Ninja costume contest with prizes, plus, of course the opportunity to imbibe this special brew and head for home at the end of the party with bottles in hand.

It’s Valentine’s day, Say it with Puppybreath-A snuggly new puppy with a big red bow might get some serious points with that someone special, but if you’re not ready for the morning after chewed-up shoe, you can still have a furry cutie deliver your love — no strings attached. For a donation to help pets in need, a cute-as-can-be adoptable Brother Wolf kitten or puppy will stop by for a visit at your honey’s home or workplace bearing a rose(s), personalized card, balloon, and locally made vegan sweet treat.

Downtown Asheville is a chocolate lover’s dream. In addition to 50 restaurants with decadent desserts and a dozen coffee shops and bakeries, there are some must-stops for fine, handmade local chocolate: French Broad Chocolate Lounge 10 S. Pack Square, The Chocolate Fetish 36 Haywood Street, Kilwins 26 Battery Park, and Chocolate Gems 25 Broadway Ave. There is also The French Broad Chocolate Factory & Tasting Room, located at 21 Buxton Avenue near downtown Asheville. They are open daily, 12 Noon until 6 PM. See their bean-to-bar process and sample their chocolate bars. Creators Dan and Jael Rattigan use fair trade cacao (cocoa) from Peru to create chocolate for their line of chocolate bars as well as creations at the Lounge.

During a factory tour, learn about their craft chocolate-making. Watch them sort the beans fresh from a Peruvian farm, roast them via the sun’s energy and then grind, temper and mold them into bars. You and your sweetheart can take a self-guided tour any day, 2-5:30 PM. Guided tours are also available.

If a relaxing getaway is more your style, let us schedule you an in-room couples massage with our friends from Around Town Massage. Their massage therapists integrate a soothing blend of Swedish Massage techniques in harmony with other effective massage modalities to bring your mind and body into a state of deep relaxation. The depth is tailored to suit your body’s needs and preferences. Two therapists arrive to massage each of you, melting away tension and aches from the comfort of your suite.

Perhaps you are a little more adventurous and prefer a hike. The North Carolina Arboretum is a short drive away. Their Carolina Mountain Trail is a 1.2 Mile long point-to-point trail that features a river and is good for all skill levels. This trail winds through three different forest types, pine, mixed hardwood and ericaceous. Along the trail is an overlook where hikers can rest and listen to the murmurs of Bent Creek. You’ll also pass the peaceful ripples of the Wolf Branch cascades. The trail entrances are located behind the Education Center adjacent to the reserved parking area, on Wolf Branch Road and on Bent Creek Road at the west edge of the Arboretum property.
