Although it’s on its last legs, summer is here for a little while longer, and we still have plenty for sun lovers to do in Asheville and at The Residences at Biltmore. But fall will be on its way soon, and with it comes one of the busiest times of the year for our area - Leaf Season. Now is the time to make your reservation for a stay in one of our suites for the color show. Although some activities are restricted, there are still a lot of great things to do in Asheville over the next few months to take advantage of our lingering warm weather, as well as catch some of the hues that color the mountains.

While it’s still summer, our outdoor heated pool and hot tub are perfect for relaxing or soaking up some of the last rays of the season. Our on-site restaurant Azalea Bar and Kitchen has outdoor seating, as well - not to mention numerous cold, local craft beers on tap, perfect for refreshing after a day at the pool.

How Do You Like These Apples?

Although Asheville is well-known for its craft beers and breweries, it also borders Henderson County, one of the largest apple-producing regions in the country. With a surplus of fall’s most popular fruit, craft cideries are a popular alternative to our area’s abundance of beer breweries. If something sweeter than beer is more your preference, you’ll find numerous cideries from which to sample close by.

Henderson County

While in Henderson County, our neighbor just 20 minutes south, start your apple adventures on the Cheers! Trail. It’s the only trail in the state that features four different types of craft beverages, including hard cideries. Bold Rock Hard Cider in Mills River is a popular destination for families, with a large taproom and tons of green space for the kids to play and run around in. Bold Rock often features live music and food trucks, as well.  Appalachian Ridge Cidery is located on St. Paul Mountain Vineyards, and is considered an artisan cidery, with an emphasis on preserving the time-honored traditions of cider-making.

The village of Flat Rock is home to the Flat Rock Cider Company, which is proud of its “Orchard to the Glass” process. The company hand-picks the apples used in processing its ciders, and bottle, can and keg it by hand, too. There is no on-site taproom, but the finished products are available at stores and restaurants throughout the region.

Asheville

Closer to us in Asheville, you can get your fill of hard cider at several locations, including Daidala Ciders. Daidala produces small-batch, uniquely flavored hard ciders from its taproom, located within the Cotton Mill Studios in the River Arts District. Noble Cider’s taproom and production facility are located in West Asheville. The brand prides itself on using only fresh, natural ingredients for its everyday and seasonal ciders, as well as its hard cider spritzers. Urban Orchard Cider Co. has two locations - West Asheville and the South Slope, close to downtown. They make each of their unique and complex brews on-site, and offer different taps at each location.

Black Mountain Ciderworks + Mead is located east of Asheville in the charming town of Black Mountain. With an emphasis on dry ciders, the cidery uses heirloom apples and doesn’t pasteurize, filter, or add fillers to its products.
