Asheville Brewery Tours

Asheville is pretty well-known for its breweries and craft beer industry; in fact, this city of 93,000 people has more than 30 breweries. That works out to about 17 breweries per 50,000 people, and ranks our southern town solidly as second only to Portland, ME for breweries per capita in the U.S., according to C + R Research. With so many choices, even locals are hard-pressed to visit every brewery in town or try every brew. Fortunately, several brewery tour companies exist to help guide you.

Guided Tours

BREW-ed The guides who lead the behind-the-scenes tours for BREW-ed have been recognized as some of the best beer experts in the country. Tour options include walking tours of several South Slope breweries. In addition to sampling the goods, the guides provide historical information about Asheville and its roots as an oasis for beer and food lovers.

Asheville Brews Cruise Touting itself as the Original and First Brewery Tour in Asheville, the Brews Cruise is another tour that gives guests the opportunity to sample different beers, as well as see some of the action that goes into brewing. Tour guides educate guests with fun facts about the brewing process, the history of beer, and even suggestions for food pairings with specific types of beers. The company also offers private tours and shuttle buses for large groups.

Asheville Brewery Tours Guides on this tour offer behind-the-scenes access, and you have the choice to walk or get driven to 3 different breweries. While you tour, you’ll sample different beers, have the opportunity to talk to brewmasters, and learn more about Asheville’s brewing history. They even offer private tours for groups of 6 or more people.

You Drink, They Drive

APT Beer Tour If you want to see the larger breweries Asheville is known for, your best bet is to catch a ride with Asheville Premier Transportation and their Beer Tour. The driver picks you up at the hotel, then provides transport to the nationally recognized New Belgium, Sierra Nevada, Highland Brewery, and Wedge breweries. APT will even include snacks and bottled water with your tour, as well as a safe shuttle back to your hotel.

Asheville Tuk Brewski Hop Jump on the Tukit - a 3-wheeled covered electric vehicle that seats 6 - for the Brewski Hop to 3 or more breweries. The driver picks you up, then gives you a selection of partner breweries to visit over three hours. The cost includes a free pint at your first stop.

AVL Beer Bus The Beer Bus isn’t a tour, but it is a convenient and safe way to experience more of the breweries around town. For the cost, you can hop on or hop off at 7 breweries on the bus route throughout the day. The bus itself runs in a continuous loop to the select stops all day.

Amazing Pubcycle The Pubcycle is a 13-seater bike where you have to do some of the work, but are entertained by a guide for the entirety of the ride. It’s BYOB, but you’ll make stops at downtown bars and other spots of interest.

Individual Brewery Tours

If you’ve really got your heart set on finding out what makes one particular brewery tick, there are tours of the beer-making process available at many of the larger breweries, and some of the small craft or nano breweries. A few favorites include Sierra Nevada, Highland, New Belgium, Wicked Weed, and Hi-Wire, but smaller breweries may be open to private tours.
