Category: Seasonal Suggestions: Near Your Asheville Hotel
May and June signal graduation time. While high school kids are deciding whether to enter the work world or to go onto college, college grads are excitedly planning for their next phase – more school, travel, a job? But, before anything, they must be allowed to enjoy the feeling of freedom and that of tossing their caps in the air and proclaiming a milestone of success.

Families and friends often share in these celebrations and, if visiting from out of town, will need a place to stay. Asheville offers a wide array of choices that range from basic hotel rooms to more luxurious suites and spacious accommodations.

Asheville, NC Hotels Meet All Budgets and Needs

If you are visiting an aspiring high school graduate of one of the several schools in the Buncombe County School system or joining in the celebration of completing four years at UNCA, there are many choices on where to stay. When visiting a new city, the main things to consider are:
• Location;
• Amenities; and
• Access to travel concierge.

East Asheville Hotels

For basic hotel accommodations for people on a budget, Tunnel Road is a good place to start. Many standard hotel chains such as Extended Stay and Best Western can be found in this part of town. And, while Tunnel Road is not right in the downtown area, a short drive of approximately five to ten minutes will get you there. Tunnel Road also has easy access to the Asheville Mall for those last-minute gifts as well as reasonable chain restaurants such as the Outback Steakhouse and Red Lobster.

West Asheville Hotels

The Crowne Plaza Resort in West Asheville is one of the more popular hotel spots in this area. The resort offers an array of activities such as golf on its 18-hole course, as well as tennis, swimming, soccer, a fitness room and access to massage and spa packages, only minutes away. It is also conveniently located to downtown and to many of the area’s schools. It has 274 guest rooms and a full-service, award-winning restaurant. Concierge and bell service are also available.

South Asheville Hotels

South Asheville is one of the hottest spots to stay in Asheville. This area makes the Biltmore Estate its home -- the area’s number one attraction. If you have some time to spend, it would be a great idea to combine a graduation visit with a day at the famed Biltmore Estate. While the Biltmore Estate offers its own accommodations, many people prefer to stay off site and explore other areas after spending a day on its property. The Residences at Biltmore is an excellent choice. This property redefines the Asheville hotel experience. Guests can stay short term or long term and the luxury suites are nestled in a forested area just outside the gates of the Biltmore Estate. The Residences at Biltmore defines itself as a luxury condo hotel. It’s the perfect accommodation for nearly any occasion and guests may select from studios, one, two and three-bedrooms suites (two and three bedroom suites scheduled for completion August 2008). These Asheville hotel suites are designed to create a unique “home suite home” experience that include flat-screened televisions, designer linens, whirlpool baths, gas fireplaces, and private balconies. A travel concierge is also on hand at all times and ready to assist guests with their every need and desire. The hotel concierge will get you directions to the graduation ceremony and also assist in arranging post-celebratory activities. And, it is within walking distance to some of Asheville’s finest restaurants.

North Asheville Hotels

North Asheville boasts The Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa. This hotel is known for its luxurious 40,000 square foot spa. If you are seeking a truly pampering experience that includes mineral pools, an inhalation room, waterfall pools, and more, this is the place for you. It appears in the “Historic Hotels of America” registry and is over 100 years old. If staying at the Grove Park is a stretch for the budget, people are welcome to visit one of their many restaurants or lounges, stroll the grounds, or sign up for a spa treatment.

Asheville, NC is easy to get around and most schools, restaurants, hotels and other services are all within a 15-minute drive.
